What is your greenhouse used for, why is this superior to outdoor growing?

Our greenhouse provides a regulated environment for plants to grow and thrive. With climate control and shielded from harsh environmental conditions (eg. heat & heavy downpour) , plants can grow throughout the year.

Tell me what happens in the greenhouse.

We sow local and internationally-sourced seeds to maturity for harvest. Seeds sown are short-cycle single harvest leafy green crop (eg. lettuces, Asian leafy) and short-cycle multiple harvest leafy (ie. herbs). Next, we transplant the seedlings from the sowing bay to maturing bay – that is – into our open nutrient film technique (NFT) tables. All this is done while ensuring the right environmental parameters and adequate nutrition to crops.

Vegetables are harvested by hand and delivered on the same day - so that you may enjoy vegetables at their freshest. We include the roots in their pots so vegetables can stay fresh for 7 days or more!

Also, we have experimental / test crops, which are grown in small batches for internal review before we put them on sale.

What special equipment do you have in a “smart greenhouse” versus normal greenhouse, and why?

Our greenhouse is controlled by a computer system connected to sensors, motors and mechanical parts that allow it to control and moderate environmental factors. With this smart system, we can control:

  1. Inner and outer shade – to shield from excessive sunlight and heat
  2. Ventilation - increase or decrease humidity and airflow
  3. Nutrition levels in our water system
  4. Temperature – with a cooling system promoting optimum growing conditions

Expertly programmed, the computerised system is capable of automatically controlling irrigation, fertigation, NFT growth points and pH.

Most importantly, our team can monitor growth off-site, from anywhere in the world.

How do you ensure that you produce pesticide-free vegetables?

Our greenhouse is managed in a closed, almost air-tight environment, protected by layers of specialised agriculture sheets and mesh to keep pests out. We also ensure our tables are cleaned after every harvest cycle; drying out NFT trays to kill bacteria or pests.

Run through with us what happens on delivery day?

Our greenhouse is controlled by a computer system connected to sensors, motors and mechanical parts that allow it to control and moderate environmental factors. With this smart system, we can control:

  1. We start harvesting vegetables from 7am.
  2. External roots are trimmed off.
  3. Plants are kept in the net pot to preserve freshness.
  4. Vegetables are packed according to their variety in bags
  5. Packed vegetables are delivered by a transporter to our customers.

Expertly programmed, the computerised system is capable of automatically controlling irrigation, fertigation, NFT growth points and pH.

Most importantly, our team can monitor growth off-site, from anywhere in the world.

Why do you only grow leafy vegetables? Can’t you grow others?

Our greenhouse was designed for growing leafy green crops. Other types of produce require different infrastructure, which are open to experimentation, in the future.

Tell us something interesting about greenhouse growing.

By growing in a smart greenhouse, we can deliver produce that would otherwise be difficult to cultivate in our climate, and we can do so all year-round, consistently.

Why should I buy from Grow Eat Well and not the market / supermarket?

Our vegetables are pesticide-free, great tasting and extremely fresh delivered straight from the farm on harvest day. Knowing your grower is important so that you know your vegetable source is safe to consume, for your family. With the current trend of eating from garden-to-table, any fresher you’ll have to grow your vegetables yourself 😊.
